3 Tips to moving Home

Moving home is one of the most stressful things you can ever do in your life ( I’m well aware of this with over 20 years experience of being in the relocation business), All your worldly possessions being shipped onto a Van and off to your new home 🏠.

So what can you do to relieve some of the stress. Well I’ll be releasing a book 📖 that goes into the details of how you can make the whole occasion run smoother but here are my top three tips:

1: Be organised - this may seem like common sense but the amount of people that move house and it’s as if they only found out the morning of the move. With rooms in disarray and washing still to be done. Post it notes are your saviour.
Label Bedroom doors so boxes 📦 if being packed by a firm can be labelled correctly, if any furniture is not returning to the same room it came from then stick a post it note on it to avoid you having to move it later.
Make sure everything you need overnight or immediately when you get to the new home is either in your car 🚗 or in a room that doesn’t need to be touched ( usually a Bathroom, toilet or closet/cupboard) then you no longer need to worry about it.
If you have access to the new house then hello 👋 Post it’s, put them on doors so less questions have to be asked regarding which rooms which.
If there are problems parking ( Assume a moving van is a minimum of 3 car lengths) let your neighbours know and cone off the area if possible. This will avoid problems with irritated moving men and long walks.
Be organised.

2. Packing - most moving firms will be more than happy 😃 to deliver boxes 📦,packing tape and paper before you move. Not only does this make it more efficient on the actual day but usually will cut down the cost if you pack all non breakables yourself such as clothes, bedding, toys, soft toys. As long as the boxes are solid and well taped then there will be no problem with stacking. What should not be used are Flimsy cheap boxes or Banana boxes as they can’t be stacked properly. Plastic crates are also great.

3. Respect - Moving do a very Hard job and usually without the proper tools and support needed. They are not as well paid as you may think 🤔 and tips are NOT included in your bill no matter what a moving company may tell you. If they are treated with respect they will usually go above and beyond to keep you happy and move things that they probably really shouldn’t. A moving man loves a happy customer they do not love someone who thinks they’ve paid for a Slave/cleaner/babysitter/pet sitter/general dogs body.
